We just got back from the sword fighting demonstration at the Victoria Community Center. It was hosted by the Victoria Public Library, and the demonstrations were performed by ARMA – The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts. It was a wonderful performance by one and all, and incredibly informative. I won’t pretend to remember everything about it, but they introduced different sword types and their advantages and disadvantages. They also demonstrated different moves, and their advantages and disadvantages.
The twins enjoyed the fighting with swords (the presenter advised us that it’s not sword fighting, because you’re not fighting your opponent’s sword, but it’s a fight… with swords as an additional weapon). Chris enjoyed learning about the swords, but after the demonstration spent 30 minutes talking with one of the presenters (who were historians) about the armor. All the different kinds of armor, the protection they offered, and the advantages and disadvantages to both. You can read more about them at their website, so for now, I’ll just include a few photos and videos (evidently I can’t upload video from my iPhone until I pay for an upgrade) of the demonstration.
